The mission of the society is to care for homeless animals and find them good homes. Several Central Texas area veterinarians work with the shelter, volunteering their time and expertise to provide medical support to the animals housed at the shelter.

$100.00 sterilized dogs and a $20.00 microchip fee
$75.00 puppies not sterilized and a $20.00 microchip fee
$50.00 cats kittens sterilized and a 20.00 microchip fee
Microchips are mandatory upon completion of an adoption.
The shelter also accepts abandoned and owner-surrendered animals on a space-available basis for a surrender fee which varies according to the spay/neuter and health status of the animal/s.
Unlike other shelters in the area, Second Chance does not operate on tax dollars and depends on donations collected by the CenTex Humane Society.

2nd Chance Shelter

  • Our shelter opened in March, 1998. It is 5,000 square ft and is currently home to over 200 animals. A dedicated staff of full-time employees and volunteers work seven days a week caring for the animals by inspecting their health, keeping them cleaned, fed, watered, and exercised.
When dogs & puppies are taken in by our shelter, they are dewormed, given DHPPC and bordatella and tested for heartworms. They are given a brief wellness exam by our vet and given a rabies shot. If they are old enough, they are started on heartworm preventative and spayed or neutered.
Cats & kittens are fel/fiv tested and if found negative we give them FVRCP shots. They are given a brief wellness exam by our vet and given a rabies shot. If they are old enough, they are given feleuk and spayed or neutered.
We are a NO KILL shelter. The animals here are kept until they find homes. That is why donations mean so much to our shelter.
Animals in our care are euthanized ONLY if they are terminally ill, or too aggressive to be adopted.
